Georgia's McCool Named SEC Gymnast of the Week

ATHENS, Ga. University of Georgia sophomore gymnast Courtney McCool has been named the Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week, the league office has announced.
The Lees Summitt, Mo., native helped lead the Gym Dogs back to a No. 1 team ranking after a season-high 197.550 also the highest score in the country with a pair of 9.975s on near-perfect beam and floor routines. Both were career-highs for the sophomore on her two events and also were the highest scores in the nation on both events this season.
“Courtney really has blossomed as a collegiate gymnast since she arrived in Athens,” Georgia head coach Suzanne Yoculan said. “She is one of the most technically sound gymnasts I ever have coached, and it’s great to see her hit routines in competition that she does in practice day-in-day-out. You can tell by looking at her she loves what she does, and that reflects in her performances and her scores.”
The former U.S. Olympian has scored a 9.9 or better on all four of her floor routines this year, either sharing the event title or winning it outright in every single meet. Her score of 9.975 against LSU was enough to make her the top-ranked floor worker in the country in the most recent rankings.
The Gym Dogs return to action Friday in Tuscaloosa at 7 p.m. CT against No. 4 Alabama, Georgia’s fifth top-five opponent this season in five meets.
