BEJAN ABTAHI


Bejan Abtahi is a junior biology major from Nashville, Tennessee.

Bejan is a member of the UGA cross country and track & field teams. He is co-President of the UGA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and recently represented the University of Georgia on the Southeastern Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

Bejan is one of the student-athlete representatives on the 2007-08 UGA Athletic Board. He was selected to attend the 2007 U.S. Olympic F.L.A.M.E. (Finding Leaders Among Minorities Everywhere) conference at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was one of 30 members chosen nationwide from 25 colleges and universities to be part of the “F.L.A.M.E. Class of 2007.” He also attended the NCAA National Leadership Conference.

Bejan participated in the 2007 UGA Athletic Association Health & Wellness fair for students from Barrow and Stroud Elementary schools.

Bejan was named to the 2007 Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll

BIOGRAPHY:

2007: Was the fourth Bulldog across the finish line at the Covered Bridge Open (26th 26:30.64)...Finished 13th overall and second for Georgia at the Bulldog Stampede with a time of 26:12.90...Clocked a 25:53 at the 8K Bill Dellinger Invitational...Was the fifth scorer for the Bulldogs at the NCAA Pre-National (212th-25:45)...Improved his time for the fourth straight meet and took 46th (25:40.60) at the SEC Championships...Clocked a 33:23.35 to take 71st at the NCAA South Regionals.

Outdoor
Competed at the SEC Championships and finished with a time of 15:07.21...won the 5000-meter run at the Spec Towns Invitational with a time of 14:58.70...took eighth in the 5000 after crossing the finish line in 15:19.19 at the Yellow Jacket Invitational...broke into the top 10 in the 5000 after clocking a 15:15.80 at the Alabama Relays.

2006: Personal-best times of 14:49 (5000-meters) and 25:07 (8000)...Competed in his first NCAA South Regionals and helped the Georgia men take fifth...Was the seventh Bulldog to finish at the SEC Championships, where the Georgia men took fifth...Gained valuable postseason experience at the NCAA Pre-Nationals...Clocked a season-best 25:07 at the Auburn Invitational.

2005: Cross Country - Took part in the Bulldogs’ first two races during the 2005 fall cross country season and clocked his best race of the season at the Nike Race of Champions (26:30.00).

High School: Ran the 1600 meters (City Champ as a sophomore, junior and senior), the 3200 (City Champ as a senior), the 800 and the 3-mile...also played safety on the football team as a freshman...National Honor Society member.

Personal: Born Jan. 28, 1987...son of Hooman and Alica Abtahi...majoring in biology with plans to go to medical school.
