PALO ALTO, Calif.
--- The top-ranked Gym Dogs rebounded from a season-opening loss at Utah on Friday to defeat the fifth-ranked Stanford Cardinal on Sunday, 196.875-196.150, on Sunday at the Burnham Pavilion.

"I can't say enough about the mental toughness our team showed tonight," Georgia head coach Suzanne Yoculan said. "We had our share of mistakes, the rest of the team bounced back very nicely and hit routines when they had to hit routines."

Despite falling behind after the first rotation, Georgia took a comfortable lead after the second and remained in control the rest of the afternoon. Courtney Kupets posted a 39.525 to win the all-around and lead the Gym Dogs to their first win of the season.

Both teams had solid starts on their respective events in the first rotation, with Grace Taylor's 9.900 leading the Gym Dogs to a 49.225 on the uneven bars. They also earned 9.850s from Kupets and Abby Stack - a career best for the junior.

Stanford posted a 49.275 on vault, grabbing a .5 lead after the first rotation.

The Gym Dogs improved on their opening-night vault score against Utah with a 49.250 against the Cardinal. The first four competitors all notched 9.875s or better, topped by Kupets' 9.925. Cassidy McComb fell in the fifth slot, but then Paige Burns - just two weeks removed from appendicitis - anchored the lineup with a 9.700.

Coupled with a 48.700 on bars by Stanford, the Gym Dogs recovered the lead at the halfway point, 98.475-97.975.

They followed with another solid outing on floor, as three gymnasts notched 9.80s and the other three 9.900s. The first of those was McComb, as the freshman recovered from her fall on vault to post the first 9.900 of her collegiate career.

A 9.900 by Stanford sophomore Carly Janiga led the Cardinal to a 49.150 on beam. Georgia held on to the lead going into the final rotation.

The Gym Dogs opened beam with a fall, but all five following competitors hit 9.800s or better to get a team mark of 49.100 and cement the first victory of the year for Georgia.

"It will be great to go home with a win," Yoculan added. "The most recent thing is usually the one on your mind, so it will be nice to go to Florida with this performance under our belts."

The Gym Dogs will remain on the road next weekend with a meet at No. 2 Florida in Gainesville on Friday at 7 p.m.
