Arby's Student-Athlete Spotlight Of The Week: Thomas Brown

THOMAS BROWN


Thomas Brown is a Public Relations major from Tucker, Georgia. He is a senior member of the UGA football team.

Thomas has contributed to the community in many significant and varied ways. His volunteer efforts include mentoring young people at several elementary schools in the Athens-Clarke County School System and assisting with St. Mary’s Hospital student-athlete visitation programs. He participated in “H.E.R.O. for a day” activities at Piedmont Park to benefit children affected by HIV/AIDS. Thomas has also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity home builds in Athens and has given presentations to numerous community organizations promoting and encouraging young people.

Thomas is the recipient of the Peter and Kay Amann Football Scholarship and has been chosen as a Coca Cola Community All-American.

BIOGRAPHY:2007: *Appeared in six games making six starts *Made six carries for 20 yards and three kickoff returns for 55 yards before suffering a broken collar bone at Tennessee *Named SEC Offensive Player of the Week (10/1) for efforts against Ole Miss *Tallied career-high 180 yards rushing on 16 carries and tied career-high with three TD vs. Ole Miss including TD runs of 41 yards and 50 yards, the second-longest TD run of his career; It marked the most rushing yards by a Bulldog since 2001 when Verron Hanes had 207 vs. Ga. Tech; Brown also made one catch for 11 yards and two kickoff returns for 18 yards *Tied for a team-best 74 rushing yards on 20 carries and had fi ve receptions for 39 yards and a TD at No. 16 Alabama; also had three kickoff returns for 68 yards *Rushed 10 times for 42 yards and one TD vs. W. Carolina *Had 12 carries for 49 yards and four kickoff returns for 112 yards vs. S. Carolina *Made 12 carries for 48 yards and two TDs including a 14-yd. TD that was UGAs fi rst TD of 2007 and returned three kickoffs for 80 yards vs. Oklahoma St. *Named to the Doak Walker Award Candidate Watch List *Held out of contact during spring

2006:
Started five of Georgia’s first seven games at tailback, leading the team in rushing at S. Carolina with 69 yards on 16 carries
*Tied school record with 99-yard KO return for TD against Tennessee
*Knee injury against Vanderbilt held him out the remainder of the year
*At the time of his injury, Brown was third in the SEC with 15 KO returns for 379 yards (25.3 avg.)
*Four carries for 25 yards in annual spring G-Day game
*Named Best All-Around Offensive Player, Most Consistent Running Back, and recipient of the Coffee County Hustle Award at conclusion of spring drills
*Recipient of Peter and Kay Amann Football Scholarship

2005:
Selected to Doak Walker Watch List
*Rushed for 67 yards on eight carries in annual spring G-Day game
*Named Most Consistent Running Back following spring drills
Ran for a career-high 144 yards and one touchdown against South Carolina, which was his fifth 100-yard rushing game of his two-year career
*Notched his first career touchdown pass (to Joe Tereshinski III) versus Florida
*Led the Bulldogs in rushing in the SEC Championship Game with 62 yards and in the Nokia Sugar Bowl with 78 yards
*Led Bulldogs with 736 total rushing yards
*Best Game - 144 rushing yards on 20 carries, 1 TD vs. South Carolina
*Recipient of Peter and Kay Amann Football Scholarship
*Part of SEC Championship team that went 10-3

2004:
Played in 11 games including three starts
*Led team in rushing with 172 carries for 875 yards (6th best in the SEC) and eight TDs which also led the team
*Best games vs. Kentucky (22x130 yards and three TDs), Vanderbilt (17x122 yards), Arkansas (23x107 yards)
*He and fellow freshman Danny Ware combined for 190 yards on 34 carries in Georgia’s 45-16 win over LSU and combined for 249 yards on 41 carries in 33-3 victory over Vanderbilt
*Named recipient of the Offensive Newcomer of the Year Award at the conclusion of the 2004 season
*Also recipient of Victors Club Award for outstanding grades in eight or more games
*Leading rusher in 2005 Outback Bowl victory over Wisconsin with 111 yards on 16 carries
*Named to SEC Coaches All-SEC Freshman Team
*Team went 10-2 capped by an Outback Bowl victory

*Team finished with a 12-1 record in junior season and a 12-2 record in his senior season
*Also started at defensive back
