Georgia Football Practice Notes: September 10, 2007
September 10, 2007 | Football
ATHENS, Ga. --- The Georgia football team began preparations for its third game of the season by working out for 90 minutes on Monday at the Woodruff Practice Fields.
The Bulldogs are 1-1 overall and 0-1 in the SEC following their 16-12 loss to South Carolina last week. Western Carolina, the Bulldogs’ opponent this week, is 0-2 after losses to Alabama and Eastern Kentucky.
“We’ve got to be focused on getting better each week,” Georgia coach Mark Richt said. “We’ve got to keep working hard on the little things. There’s still plenty of football left to be played. Our goal is to get better and play the best game we can on Saturday.”
Richt announced the captains for Saturday’s game will be Fernando Velasco on offense, Dannell Ellerbe and Kade Weston on defense, and Benjamin Boyd on special teams.
Before practice begins on Mondays, the players run five different times around the football field, a drill call “fifths.” One group is excused from the run based on stellar academic performances. On Monday, that group was the interior defensive line.
Georgia will take on Western Carolina on Saturday at Sanford Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. and the game will be available as a pay-per-view broadcast by Comcast Sports Southeast/Charter Sports Southeast (CSS). Viewers may order the game through their local, participating cable provider for $29.99. The game will be made available to cable providers throughout the state. Matt Stewart will handle the play-by-play duties, while former Georgia quarterback Buck Belue will provide the analysis. All Georgia games are broadcast live on the Bulldog Radio Network on AM 750 WSB in Atlanta and on both 106.1 FM and 960 The Ref in Athens. The radio audio also can be heard worldwide on both georgiadogs.com, the official website of UGA Athletics, and on XM Satellite Radio.
