ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia's Levern Spencer won the high jump at the North America, Central America and Caribbean Athletic Association (NACAC) Championships in San Salvador, El Salvador, on Sunday to highlight Georgia's track and field action over the weekend.

In addition to Spencer, LaRon "Bud" Bennett sprinted to a first-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles at the NACAC Championships on Saturday and Krista Woodward notched her second straight javelin title at the RBC Canadian Track & Field Championships in Windsor, Ontario, on Sunday.

Jumping for her native country of St. Lucia, Spencer captured a gold medal in the high jump at the NACAC Championships on Sunday. After clearing both 6 feet, inch and 6-1.50 on her third and final attempt, Spencer needed only a pair of jumps to soar over 6-2.25 for the win.

Spencer, who was the 2007 NCAA indoor runner-up to teammate Patricia Sylvester and a four-time All-American for Georgia, will be competing for Georgia as a junior during the 2008 indoor season and as a senior during the Bulldogs’ next outdoor season.

Bennett, a Brunswick, Ga., native, won the 400 hurdles on Saturday during his second year on the professional circuit. Bennett (48.76), who was a three-time outdoor All-American for the Bulldogs before concluding his career in 2005, topped Belize’s Jonathan Williams (48.88) and Puerto Rico’s Javier Culson (49.31) to earn his first NACAC title on Saturday.

Bennett’s time was .02 off his personal-best time in the 400 hurdles, which he clocked at the 2005 NCAA Outdoor Championships on his way to All-American honors for the Bulldogs.

Many miles away at the Canadian Championships in Windsor, Woodward, who wrapped up her career for Georgia in June after winning four Southeastern Conference titles and becoming a four-time All-American, won her second javelin championship in a row.

The New Westminster, British Columbia, native registered the second longest throw of her career (180-1) to top the field. Woodward broke the school record in the event at the 2007 Alabama Relays with an effort of 183-11, which was also a Canadian national record.
