Caithness? Match Suspended At Ladies? British Amateur

June 15, 2007 | Women's Golf

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia’s signee Krystle Caithness owned a 1-up lead through 15 holes of her Round of 16 match in the Ladies’ British Open Amateur Championship on Friday when play was suspended due to rain and threatening weather.

Friday’s matches were slated to begin at 8:00 a.m. but were postponed until 3:00 p.m. due to a constant, heavy rainfall. Caithness earned a 1-up advantage over Rachel Connor of England with just three holes remaining when an automatic warning device for lightning sounded and ended play at 7:03 p.m. Five of the eight round of 16 matches were completed at that point.

Caithness, a native of Cellardyke, Scotland, who will arrive in Athens this fall, and Connor and the two other unfinished matches will continue at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. The quarterfinals will begin immediately thereafter.  The winner of the Caithness-Connor match will face the winner of an all-Swedish match-up between Karin Kinnerud and Anna Nordqvist in the quarterfinals. Nordqvist was 1-up through 14 holes when play ended on Friday.

Friday’s delay forced organizers to push the semifinal and championship matches to Sunday.
