April 09, 2007 | General
ATHENS, Ga. – More than 150 University of Georgia Athletic Association coaches and staff members spread out around Athens and Clarke County Monday, April 9, conducting community service projects as part of the Association's annual Mission Renewal Day.
Mission Renewal Day is an annual observance that renews the Athletic Association's goals, objectives and purpose.
"We felt that giving back to the community on this special day would be a good way to show our appreciation to the area in which we live and work," said UGA Director of Athletics Damon Evans. "It provided a great opportunity to touch the lives of many in our community and also expose our coaches and staff to new experiences. This is one of the most important days of the year for the Athletic Association."
The Athletic Association employees worked in several different areas that included local elementary schools, Athens Area Council on Aging, Family Council Center, American Red Cross, Meals on Wheels, Project SAFE, VistaCare, Athens Food Bank, assisted living and retirement homes, and yard work at private homes.
