Gym Dogs Teamed Up With Special Olympics
March 27, 2007 | Gymnastics
The Gym Dogs have teamed up with Special Olympics and Clarke County Schools for the 2007 season.
To kick off their partnership, Georgia’s gymnastics team helped the Clarke County Chapter of Special Olympics with its 16th Annual SOAR 5K Run in November. The team has also hosted weekly gymnastics classes for athletes with disabilities throughout the spring semester.
“We always stress to our gymnasts that it’s important to give back to the community that supports us,” said Georgia head coach Suzanne Yoculan. “Being involved with the local community is a life lesson that we all can learn from. We’re excited to be a part of the Special Olympics in our gym every week. As a therapeutic recreation major, I know first hand that there is no better way to improve coordination and confidence than through doing gymnastics.”
