UGA's 800 Free Relay Team Places 12th At NCAAs

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. Georgia’s 800 freestyle relay team finished 12th on Friday at the NCAA Championship at Minnesota’s University Aquatic Center.

The 800 free relay team of Gil Stovall, Nathan Bibliowicz, Sebastien Rouault and Joe Redmon stopped the clock in 6:29.06. Stovall’s leadoff 200 time of 1:36.78 is the seventh-fastest effort in school history. Each member of the relay team earned Honorable Mention All-America honors.

Rouault came in 14th in the 400 individual medley, touching in 3:49.38 in the consolation final to earn Honorable Mention All-America honors. On Saturday, Rouault will attempt to defend his 2006 NCAA title in the 1,650 freestyle.

The Bulldogs will head into the final day of competition in 14th place with 51 points. Auburn has the team lead with 380 points.

“It was a tough day, and Mama said there would be days like this,” Georgia head coach Jack Bauerle said. “We’re not hitting on all cylinders, but I’m very proud of these kids. They are fighting so hard, and that’s all you can ask for as a coach.”

Genya Gouzeev took 23rd in the 3-meter springboard diving, accumulating 317.15 points.

Neil Versfeld finished 31st in the 100 breaststroke, stopping the clock in 54.66. That is the sixth-best time in school history.

In the 100 butterfly, Redmon finished 33rd in 47.91, Stovall was 35th in 48.11 and Bibliowicz placed 39th in 48.50.

The 200 medley relay team of Stovall, Michael Cellini, Bibliowicz and Joe Smutz touched in 1:28.56 to finish 18th.

The NCAA Championship will conclude Saturday with platform diving, the 1,650 freestyle, the 200 backstroke, the 100 freestyle, the 200 breaststroke, the 200 butterfly and the 400 freestyle relay. Live results are available at gophersports.com.
