November 08, 2007 | Cross Country

ATHENS, Ga. --- With the Southeastern Conference Championships completed and the NCAA South Regionals around the corner, Bulldog fans as well as distance running enthusiasts can get to know members of UGA's cross country teams with "Q&A" features on georgiadogs.com. The 10th installment in this series is with freshman Travis Voyles.

Voyles, a native of Douglasville, Ga., is redshirting for the Bulldogs this season and has competed in a pair of races unattached. At the Bulldog Stampede in Athens, Voyles clocked a season-best 27:50.76 to finish 43rd overall. Voyles helped lead his teammates at Chapel Hill High School to the
2006 GHSA AAAA cross country state championship before joining Georgias squad.

Q: What is your favorite thing about Athens?
A: I love that UGA has a beautiful campus that leads right into a great downtown area that has plenty to offer to anyone.

Q: If you were not a collegiate runner, you would be competing in what sport and why?
A: If I wasnt running, I would probably be playing soccer. I gave up soccer in high school and it was one of the hardest decisions I have made in my life. I still love watching games and kicking the ball around every now and then.

Q: What do you believe your top accomplishment so far in life is?
A: I have many accomplishments in my life that I am proud of but the relationships I have built with my friends and family and the fact that I have become a student-athlete at UGA top the list. I value the friendships I have and I know I can rely on my friends through anything. I also am proud that I am a student-athlete here at UGA because it exhibits all the hard work I have put in over the years.

Q: What is your favorite Southern food?
A: Pretty much anything that my grandmother will cook but I especially love barbeque.

Q: How many brothers/sisters do you have?
A: I have one younger brother, Wade, who is a freshman in high school.

Q: Do you have any collegiate/professional athletes (former or current) in family?
A: My grandfather played on the freshman football team here at UGA in 1948, but had to leave after one year because of his fathers death. My uncle pitched for the Gordon College baseball team in the 1980s.

Q: Who is your favorite musical group or solo artist?
A: Most are surprised to hear Im a country fan but I also like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Third Eye Blind, Angels & Airwaves and bands similar to them.

Q: What are your career aspirations?
A: I dont have a definite decision on what I want to do for my career, but I want to end up doing something that I have passion for. Right now Im looking into the medical field or something thats related to biology.

Q: What were your reasons for becoming a Bulldog?
A: UGA was a heavy favorite from the start for me since both of my parents and many other family members went to Georgia. So basically I have been a Dawg fan since birth. I love everything about the school.

Q: What is your major?
A: Biological Science.
