Georgia's Schnugg, Hunt Advance At Seminole Invitational

In the A’ Division Round of 32, Schnugg and Hunt paced the UGA efforts with a pair of dominating 6-0, 6-1 victories. B both rolled through their first-round matches, surrendering just one game each. Shnugg knocked off Tyronne Ewels of UAB, while Hunt took down Ivan Besancon of Mercer. Sophomore Christian Vitulli also posted an impressive A’ Division win with a 6-0, 6-3 over seeded player Jose Mugurza of Georgia Tech. Additionally, junior Josh Varela (Watkinsville, Ga.) competed in the A’ Division but was beaten in the first round by Jakob Klaeson of Ole Miss, 6-3, 6-4.
In second-round action, Schnugg advanced to the quarterfinals with a win over Marke Clemente, 7-5, 6-4. Hunt followed suit with a three-set, come-from-behind win over Tyler Hochwalt of Florida, 3-6, 6-2, 6-3. Vitulli was forced to withdraw from his second-round match against Ashwin Kumar due to injury. At the time, he had dropped the first set, 6-4.
In the B’ Division, sophomore Chris Motes (Augusta, Ga.) won his Round of 32 match, 6-1, 6-3, defeating Chapman Mitchell of Mercer. Freshman Drake Bernstein (Winder, Ga.) also won his first-round match as he knocked off Nick Maurillo of Auburn, 7-5, 6-3.
In the Round of 16 in the B’ Division, Bernstein fell to Sinan Sudas of UCF, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4, while Motes was defeated by RJ Nagel of South Alabama, 7-5, 6-4.
Also in action Friday was senior Travis Helgeson (Overland Park, Kan.). Helgeson competed in the consolation draw at the ITA National Indoor Singles Championship, but fell to Dominic Inglot of Virginia, 6-3, 6-4.
Schnugg and Hunt will compete in their quarterfinal matches Saturday at 11 a.m.
