ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia's Aleksandra Putra and Chris Colwill have been named as athletes of the week by the Southeastern Conference.

Putra, a junior from Givors, France, was chosen as the SEC Female Swimmer of the Week, and Colwill, a senior from Brandon, Fla., was picked as the SEC Male Diver of the Week on Tuesday.

Putra led Georgia to victories over No. 2 Stanford and instate rival Georgia Tech last week. In the win over the Cardinal, Putra won the 100- and the 200-yard backstroke races and was third in the 200-yard individual medley. Her 200-yard back time of 1:56.06 was an NCAA A-cut time and ranks first in the SEC. She also led off the 200-yard medley relay team that recorded an A-cut time.

"Aleksandra did a fantastic job at the meets," Bauerle said. "She was instrumental in us taking a hard-earned win against Stanford. She was lined up against some of the nation's top swimmers and she did a great job. She's a great kid with a great attitude."

Colwill paced the Bulldogs to the victory over Georgia Tech as he won the 1- and 3-meter springboards at the same site as his 2006 national championships. Colwill is a perfect 8-0 in competition this season and now has been named SEC Diver of the Week three times.

"In my mind, Chris is the diver of the week every week," Bauerle said. "He does so much for our team and for the University of Georgia. We're thankful he's a part of our program."
