Getting To Know Georgia Cross Country Runner Kylie Foley
October 23, 2007 | Cross Country
Foley, a native of Acworth, Ga., jumpstarted her career at Georgia by taking 14th overall (18:36.20) at the 5K Bulldog Stampede on Sept. 22. Foley completed a stellar career at Harrison High School in 2007, including a second-place finish in the 3200-meter run at the 2007 GHSA 5-A state meet. Away from the track, Foley left Harrison with a 4.1 GPA and a member of the National Honor Society.
Q: What is your favorite thing about Athens?
A: My favorite thing about Athens is the campus. I love how we have a beautiful campus, a cute downtown area and a lot of great places to run. Once I figured out my way around campus and stopped getting lost, I realized how beautiful it really is.
Q: If you were not a collegiate runner, you would be competing in what sport and why?
A: I played basketball in high school and loved it. I actually really wanted to play basketball in college until I gave it up for a new love - running.
Q: What do you believe is your top accomplishment so far in life?
A: My top accomplishment so far in life is becoming a student-athlete here at UGA. I have wanted to run for UGA since my brother (Kevin) ran for UGA in 2001. Being a student-athlete at one of the top-ranked schools for both cross country and academics is a great accomplishment that I am really proud of.
Q: What is your favorite Southern food?
A: Grits!
Q: How many brothers/sisters do you have?
A: I have two older sisters and one older brother.
Q: Do you have any collegiate/professional athletes (former or current) in your family?
A: My brother, Kevin, ran cross country and track for UGA.
Q: What is your favorite musical group or solo artist?
A: I don’t really have one favorite artist, but I love country music.
Q: What are your career aspirations?
A: I hope to become a physical therapist in the future. I would love to open up my own practice one day.
Q: What were your reasons for becoming a Bulldog?
A: I loved everything about UGA. My older sister and brother both went here and I have grown up a Bulldog fan. When I visited here, I fell in love with the campus, the team and the coach (Dave Hartman). They also had the major I was interested in and UGA has such a great academic and athletic reputation.
Q: What is your major?
A: Exercise and Sport Science.
Foley and her teammates return to action at the Southeastern Conference Championships in Lexington, Ky., on Saturday, Oct. 27. Full results and a recap from the conference meet will be located at georgiadogs.com.
