Coaches Corner - October 1, 2007

October 01, 2007 | Gymnastics

In the first week of mandatory practice, we have accomplished about as much as anticipated. We have also realized that we have a long way to go!

Cassidy and Hilary stood out right away and have already shown what a large role they will play in this year’s lineup. They look great on all four events and both have excellent, new floor routines. Vault seems to be rather thin due to the numerous off season injuries.

Courtney and Tiffany are the only two returning team members from the vault lineup that are currently able to vault, but we do expect full recoveries from all the others. Beam will definitely be our deepest event again this year, but bars has added some depth as well. With the addition of the two freshmen and with Abby’s new dismount, we are beginning to look very strong on bars. Lauren Sessler has also been turning some heads on bars.

Overall, we are very excited about the upcoming year, and the incredibly large challenge that lays ahead for us. I think this team realizes that they have a chance to do something very special, and are eager to get it started, and I will do my best to give you weekly tidbits that are informative as to our progress. That’s it for this week from the corner!
