January 20, 2007 | Women's Tennis

ATHENS, Ga – The No. 24 Georgia women’s tennis team remained perfect at the Georgia Invitational on Saturday, now holding a 16-0 record in singles action and a 7-0 mark in doubles play for the tournament.

Two Bulldogs pairs won their matches by an 8-2 margin, and Yvette Hyndman and Darya Ivanov upset the No. 46 pair of Rawia Elsisi and Claudia Strauss (Troy), 8-5.

Mississippi State grabbed two doubles victories while Kansas State took one as well.

The top four seeds of the tournament, all from Georgia, advanced with straight-sets wins. On the top half of the red draw, No. 1-seeded Ivanov triumphed 6-4, 6-3, and will play teammate Monika Dancevic (No. 3 seed), who won her match 6-4, 6-1, in the next round.

No. 2-seeded Natalie Frazier cruised through her Saturday match, 6-1, 6-0, and will face fellow Bulldog Yvette Hyndman (No. 4 seed) on Sunday. Hyndman won her first set over Rawia Elsisi (Troy) 6-3, but then fell behind 5-0. The freshman then soared back with seven straight games to take the set 7-5 and clinch the match.

The Bulldogs eased past their opponents in the Black draw as well, completing the straight-sets sweep for Georgia. The Bulldogs are guaranteed co-champions in both draws after today’s performance.

Teams wrap up play in the Georgia Invitational on Sunday with round robin doubles play at 9 a.m. followed by singles at 11:45 a.m.
