Special-edition packages celebrate the Bulldogs’ long standing tradition
ATHENS-------- The University of Georgia is one of three college football teams being featured this fall on the front of special edition packages of “Breakfast of Champions” cereal Wheaties®.
Georgia and two other prominent college football national powers will be featured on the covers of the three special edition packages which are being rolled out regionally this month.
“It’s a tremendous tribute to our program that has been successfully built over generations.” said Bulldog head coach Mark Richt who has led his team to three SEC Eastern Division titles in the last four years. “We are thrilled to be featured on the Wheaties box, and I’m personally proud for all the Georgia people around the country.”
The new 18-ounce Wheaties package is now available regionally. Other college teams that have been featured on past Wheaties boxes include the University of Nebraska, Northwestern University, Texas Western University and the University of Texas.
“The three colleges featured on the package showcase hard work, dedication and a long-standing tradition of championship programs that have set the standard in the world of college football,” said Wheaties Marketing Manager Eric Treschuk. “Each has made its unique mark in the world of collegiate sports, and it is a privilege to feature these standout programs on the Wheaties box.”
The University of Georgia package features Head Coach Mark Richt on the front of the box and famed Bulldog mascot UGA on the back bottom right corner.
Tradition is defined as “the handing down of beliefs, legends, and customs from generation to generation,” and over the past century, all three celebrated schools have built a profound legacy around college football, putting their stake in the ground for generations to come. University of Georgia teams have been recognized as national champions five times (1927, 1942, 1946, 1968 and 1980) throughout history. In addition, the Bulldogs have earned the sixth-most bowl invitations in the history of college football and boast two Heisman Trophy winners.

Launched in 1924, Wheaties is the No. 1 whole-grain wheat flaked breakfast cereal in the country. The brand began its association with sports in the mid-1930s with a sign on the left field wall at Nicollet Park near downtown Minneapolis. General Mills’ broadcast deal with the minor league Minneapolis Millers on WCCO Radio included the large signboard that Wheaties would use to introduce its new ad slogan: “Wheaties—The Breakfast of Champions.” From that rather humble beginning, Wheaties has built a heritage that includes many of the greatest athletes of all time.
