ATLANTA, Ga. --- Georgia volleyball lost 3-2 to Georgia Tech at the Georgia Tech Invitational in the O’Keefe Gymnasium on Friday night. The Bulldogs are scheduled to play Northern Iowa during their final game of the tourney at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The Bulldogs were down 0-2 before battling for a pair of wins in game three and game four during their second match of the day. In the fifth and deciding game, Georgia Tech edged Georgia 15-10 to clinch the match. The final scores of the match were 19-30, 15-30, 30-26, 30-25, 10-15.
“The first two games, we did not play our game and Georgia Tech was almost flawless,” Georgia head coach Steffi Legall said, adding that the Yellow Jackets only had one hitting error in the first pair of games. “But if you can have a loss that you can actually take, this would be one of them. This young team is still learning and any experience is good experience.”
Senior Simona Speed, who Legall said “settled down the team’s passing,” and sophomore Maria Taylor both had 15 kills for the match and Taylor finished with a .406 hitting percentage. Freshman Josefine Ehmke also added four blocks in her second collegiate game of her career for Georgia.
“I am so proud of how our girls bounced back in one of the tougher atmospheres to play in,” Legall said. “They really showed heart and character throughout the match.”
