ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Georgia football team held its first preseason practice of the 2006 season at the Woodruff Practice Fields
Saturday afternoon. The session lasted just over two hours with the players in the helmets and shorts.

“This was not a bad first day,” said head coach Mark Richt. “We caught the ball well but we’re not hitting anybody yet.”

Georgia will practice in helmets and shorts for the next four sessions. The first set of two-a-day practices will be Thursday, Aug. 10 and the team will
go in full pads that morning.

“It’s an exciting time,” said Richt. “Seeing the guys last night come into the team meeting room and then at the team meal, even though most of them
have been here all summer, it’s a different feeling when you know that it has finally arrived and it’s time to start preparing for the season.”

The fall semester begins Wednesday, Aug. 16. The annual Fans Picture Day will be held Saturday, Aug. 19 at Sanford Stadium. The Bulldogs, ranked 14th
in the USA Today Preseason Coaches Poll, open their season at home against Western Kentucky Sept. 2. Kickoff against the Hilltoppers is slated for
12:30 p.m. and the game will be televised live by Lincoln Financial Sports.
