August 24, 2006: Football Practice Notes
August 25, 2006 | Football
ATHENS, Ga. --- The No. 14-ranked Georgia football team held its final full scrimmage of the preseason on Thursday in Sanford Stadium.
In the previous two August scrimmages the focus was on competition on the field, but Thursday’s practice was more about substitutions and sideline organization, offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Neil Callaway said.
“We usually go ones vs. twos but today was about Georgia against the scout team, so it was less competitive,” said Callaway.
Starting quarterback Joe Tereshinski and backup Joe Cox both took snaps with the Georgia squad.
“Joe T was pretty sharp,” Callaway said. “I wish he would have been more on target as far as his placement on some throws, but there were no major problems. Joe Cox looked good except for one pick on an out. We don’t like that, but other than that he looked good.”
Callaway also addressed the depth on the offensive line following the workout. Other than the starting five of Ken Shackleford, Fernando Velasco, Nick Jones, Chester Adams and Michael Turner, Callaway said Seth Watts is the only player he is sure will play against Western Kentucky.
“Other than that I really don’t know,” Callaway said.
Defensively, coordinator Willie Martinez said it was good to see players such as Brandon Miller and Darrius Dewberry (both pulled muscles) back at
practice after battling minor injuries.
“We still have a few things to iron out, but we still have some time,” Martinez said. “But it’s nothing that can’t be corrected in a week.”
The Bulldogs will hold practices on Friday and Saturday before starting their game-week routine on Monday.
Georgia opens the season Sept. 2 at home against WKU. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m., and the game will be televised live by Lincoln Financial Sports. All Georgia games are broadcast live on the Bulldog Radio Network on AM 750 WSB in Atlanta and both 106.1 FM and 960 The Ref in Athens. Also,
they can be heard on georgiadogs.com, the official website of UGA Athletics.
