ATHENS, Ga. --- Wednesday was the first day of the fall academic semester at the University of Georgia and head football coach Mark Richt decided it was the perfect time to give his team a break from the practice field.

The Bulldogs have practiced at least once on 10 of the last 11 days.

"They've worked hard in pre-season camp, and we felt like it was time to give them a day off," Richt said. "Hopefully, this will give them a little juice. They looked a little tired, a little ragged. The first day of school is always tough and a bit of an adjustment so we decided to meet with them for a couple of hours and just let them go.

"We're having a special teams kicking scrimmage on Thursday and our second full scrimmage on Friday. This should help them be ready for those," said Richt.

The Bulldogs are ranked No. 14 in the pre-season edition of the USA Today Coaches Poll. Georgia will open the season Sept. 2 at home against Western Kentucky. Kickoff is slated for 12:30 p.m., and the game will be televised by Lincoln Financial Sports. All Georgia games are broadcast live on the Bulldog Radio Network on AM 750 WSB in Atlanta and both 106.1 FM and 960 The Ref in Athens and can be heard on georgiadogs.com, the official website of UGA Athletics, as well.
