Former Bulldog Travis Jones Hosts Youth Football Camp

MACON --- Travis Jones, a former defensive captain for the Georgia football team in 1994 and current outside linebackers coach for the Miami Dolphins, recently hosted a free one-day youth football camp at Henderson Stadium in Macon.
Joined by J.T. Wall, Maurice Harrell, Joe Dupree, Mitch Davis, Bill Montgomery, Greg Tremble and Charles Pledger, who also all suited up for the Bulldogs in the early 1990s, Jones hosted the inaugural Travis Jones Football Fundamentals Youth Camp. Jones, a native of Irwinton, said 142 children ages 8-15 attended the July 1st camp and that it was a fulfilling experience for the campers as well as for he and his former teammates.
“It was an awesome experience to get together with my Georgia teammates. Just as we relied on each other ‘between the hedges’ back then, it was that same reliance on each other that I knew would bring my camp vision to life with great success," Jones said. "Giving back to the Middle Georgia community was truly a gift for me as well. I felt that same anticipation and excitement I did as a child opening presents on Christmas morning.”
Breakfast and lunch was served to the campers and high school football coaches from the Macon area also helped out with the event. Jones hopes to have the second-annual camp at the end of June 2007 and his goals for the future of the camp are clear.
“My vision for the camp in the future is to provide a safe and structured learning environment for young aspiring athletes, where athletic as well as personal confidence can be developed, enhanced and transferred into daily life skills," Jones said. "We want to instill in these youngsters personal accountability, persistence and perseverance that will enrich their lives and serve as a building block for achievement both on and off the field."
