Georgia Finishes Ninth In Directors? Cup

UGA squads accumulate 850.75 points
ATHENS, Ga. --- The University of Georgia finished ninth in the U.S. Sports
Academy Directors’ Cup for the 2005-06 academic year.
Georgia recorded its fifth top-10 showing in six years in the Directors’
Cup, which is presented annually by NACDA, the United States Sports Academy
and USA Today to the best overall collegiate athletics programs in the
country. The Directors’ Cup is determined by a points scale factoring in the
final national finish of schools’ teams.
Georgia won the national championship in gymnastics this season and earned a
school-record seven Southeastern Conference titles (football, gymnastics,
men’s golf, men’s tennis, women’s swimming and diving, women’s indoor track
and field, and women’s outdoor track and field). Georgia rolled up 850.75
points to finish ninth. Stanford, with 1,197 points, won for the 12th
straight year.
Since the program began, Georgia has finished 11th in 1997, seventh in 1998,
second in 1999, 11th in 2000, third in 2001, eighth in 2002, 15th in 2003,
fifth in 2004, seventh in 2005 and ninth in 2006.
Earlier it was announced that Georgia had won the SEC All-Sports Trophy
presented annually by the New York Times Regional Newspaper Group to the SEC
school with the most successful athletic program.
