Women's Tennis Defeats Ole Miss 5-2

ATHENS, Ga. --- The 28th-ranked Georgia Bulldogs recorded a 5-2 win over No. 60 Ole Miss on Sunday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
Georgia (11-8, 7-3) won the doubles point to take the early 1- 0 advantage. Georgia's doubles team of Evgenia Subbotina and Darya Ivanov, ranked No. 54 nationally, took the first doubles match at number two 8-3 over Kseniia Tokarieva and Nika Koukhartchouk. Then, Natalie Frazier and Caroline Basu defeated 55th-ranked Virginia Tomatis and Ilona Somers 8-4 at number one to clinch the doubles point for the Bulldogs. At number three, Lady Rebels Carlin Cochran and Preethi Subramanian held off Kelley Hyndman and Sara Lett 8-4 to end doubles play.
"We felt like getting the doubles point today was going to be crucial," said Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace. "I felt like we really did a good job at the number one and two courts in doubles and got that point."
In singles, Ole Miss (10-8, 3-7) evened the score at 1-1 as Mimi Renaudin defeated Kelly Sandefer 6-1, 6-2 at number six.
Georgia would go back up 2-1 when 18th-ranked Frazier won 6- 0, 6-3 at number one over Tokarieva.
The remaining matches were all highly contested. At number five Ivanov out dueled Subramanian through two tiebreakers 7-6 (7-4), 7-6 (7-5) putting the Bulldogs up 3-1 while at number two Somers beat Subbotina 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 to make the score 3-2. Then, 85th-ranked Basu clinched the win for Georgia defeating Koukhartchouk at number three 7-6 (7-3), 2- 6, 6-1.
