Georgia Softball Clinches SEC Eastern Division Title

ATHENS, Ga. --- The No. 9-ranked Georgia Bulldogs (50-12, 24-6 SEC) secured their second consecutive SEC Eastern Division title on Sunday with a 7-6 come-from-behind win over the No. 4-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols (48-8, 19-8 SEC) in front of 1,371 fans at the UGA Softball Complex.

Jessica Doucette secured the win for the Bulldogs with a bases loaded RBI single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Ashley Godfrey contributed two home runs and three RBI in the win. Megan McAllister also tallied a home run and two RBI for the Bulldogs.

Katie Griffith (11-3) earned the win in relief of Doucette, scattering no runs and one hit in two-thirds of an inning. Doucette scattered six earned runs and seven hits in 6.1 innings of work.

Georgia's win on Sunday marks the fifth consecutive season with 50 or more wins.

Georgia tallied two runs in the second inning to take an early 2-0 lead. Doucette reached first base on a one-out single. Godfrey cleared the bases with a two-run blast to left field.

The Bulldogs escaped a one-out bases loaded jam in the third inning after Doucette induced two consecutive ground outs to end the frame.

Georgia threatened with runners on first and second base with no outs in the fourth inning but was unable to manufacture any runs.

Tennessee evened the score at 2-2 in the fifth inning on Lindsay Schutzler's RBI single and Katherine Card's sacrifice fly.

Georgia scored three runs in the sixth inning to take a 5-2 lead. Chelsea Cantillo led off the frame with an infield single and scored on McAllister's two-run home run to left field. Godfrey collected her second home run of the game with a solo home run to left field.
