Tuscaloosa, Ala. --- The 30th ranked Georgia Bulldogs
defeated the 26th-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide 6-1 Sunday at
the UA Tennis Complex in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

The Bulldogs (9-6, 5-1 SEC) took an early 1-0 advantage over
the Crimson Tide (7-7, 3-3 SEC) by claiming the doubles point
taking two of the three contests. At number one the team of
Shadisha Robinson and Carolina Basu, ranked eighth, went up
2-0 for Georgia, but would drop the match 8-2 to the Tide's
18th-ranked team of Robin Stephenson and Ashley Bentley. Then,
at number three the Bulldogs tandem of Natalie Frazier and
Kelley Hyndman defeated Natalie McElveen and Andrea Brenes 8-4
to even the doubles competition. The point came down to the
number two match up of Georgia's Darya Ivanov and Evgenia
Subbotina, ranked #33, versus Alabama's Mari Muller and
Melissa Day. Each team had match point in their favor in the
third set but neither was able to finish the match sending it
to a tie breaker. Then in the tie breaker, Ivanov and
Subbotina rallied back from being down 5-1 to win the break
8-6 including taking the final three points after facing match
point at 6-5 to clinch the first team point.

In singles, Bentley defeated Robinson 6-2, 6-2 at number two
to pull the match even at 1-1. However, Georgia would quickly
jump head 3-1 as Bulldogs Hyndman and Ivanov took points
respectively at number five and number six. After dropping the
first set 3-6 McElveen, Basu took the final two sets 6-2, 6-2
at number four to put the Bulldogs up 4-1 clinching the team
point. Frazier then picked up a win at number one, and
Subbotina picked up a win at number three for the final margin
of 6-1.

Up next, Georgia will continue play on the road for their next
two contests. The Bulldogs will face #29 Kentucky in Lexington
at 4:00 p.m. Friday and then #12 Vanderbilt in Nashville next
Sunday at noon.
