Gym Dogs Remain Nation's Top Team

ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia is the nation's top-ranked gymnastics team for the sixth consecutive week, and now the Gym Dogs own the No. 1 ranking on each individual event as well.
In the updated national rankings released Monday morning by Gym Info, Georgia became the first team since UCLA late in the 2003 season to be ranked No. 1 on every apparatus.
"I'm proud of the progress this team has made," said Georgia head coach Suzanne Yoculan. "We've been in some close meets and have come through like champions. But we are still so far from peaking. We have a lot of areas we can improve on."
Georgia (11-0) now owns the top two scores in the nation this year, with a 197.475 against Oklahoma and a 197.525 in Friday's win over UCLA. The Gym Dogs have scored above 197 four times, while No. 3 Utah is the only other team that has scored above a 197 once.
In the individual rankings sophomore Katie Heenan is the nation's top gymnast on the floor exercise and freshman Courtney Kupets is ranked No. 1 on the uneven bars. Freshman Tiffany Tolnay is ranked third on the vault.
Rankings for the remainder of the regular season are based on regional qualifying scores (RQS). RQS is based on a team's six best regular-season scores, of which three must be from away meets. To obtain the RQS, the highest score is eliminated and the remaining five scores are averaged.
