2006 All-SEC Football Teams Announced
December 05, 2006 | Football
Ten of the 12 SEC schools had a member on the first-team All-SEC squad. Following Arkansas, Florida had five players on the first-team with Auburn, LSU and Tennessee four, while Georgia had three.
Arkansas had the second-most players on both the first and second units with 10. Florida had a league-high six players on the second unit followed by Arkansas, Auburn, LSU and South Carolina four, with Georgia, Kentucky and Vanderbilt three each.
Every SEC squad had at least three players represented on the first and second teams.
There were two unanimous selections to this year’s All-SEC squad - Arkansas running back Darren McFadden and Ole Miss linebacker Patrick Willis. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own players, thus a unanimous selection earns 11 of 12 first-team votes.
The All-SEC squad had 17 first-team seniors, 14 were underclassmen, including 11 juniors and three sophomores. Arkansas’ McFadden, center Jonathan Luigs and Tennessee punter Britton Colquit were the only sophomores on the first unit. On the second-team, 13 seniors were selected, 14 juniors, 10 sophomores and one freshman. LSU tight end Richard Dickson was the only freshman on the second-team.
The SEC individual award winners will be released on Wednesday and the SEC All-Freshman Team will be announced on Thursday.
