November 02, 2006 | Softball
ATHENS, Ga. --- Cameron University head coach Brent Shaw has been named assistant softball coach at the University of Georgia according to an announcement by Bulldog head coach Lu Harris-Champer.
"We are very excited to have Brent join our staff," said Georgia head coach Lu Harris-Champer. "Having previous head coaching experience, he knows what it takes to run a total program. He is an experienced recruiter with a keen eye for talent and an outstanding hitting coach. He will add a great deal to our team in all areas of the program."
Shaw comes to Athens after taking over the Lady Aggies' program on April 1, 2005. He joined the Cameron staff after spending the previous season as assistant coach at Angelo State University, where helped guide the Rambelles to the 2004 NCAA Division II National Championship.
Shaw and the Angelo State staff were named the NCAA Division II Coaching Staff of the Year by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). The Rambelles produced two All-Americans, seven All-Lone Star Conference selections, as well as the Pitcher and Freshman of the Year in Shaw's only season in San Angelo.
A native of Antlers, Okla., Shaw spent one season as a graduate assistant at Southeastern Oklahoma State University (SOSU), helping guide the Lady Savages to the LSC North Division title and an appearance in the South Central Regional Tournament in 2003.
A 2003 graduate of SOSU, Shaw also coached at Durant Junior High and as a volunteer assistant at Murray State College. He earned his master's degree in Health and Physical Education from SOSU in 2004.
"This is a great opportunity for not only me, but my family as well," said Shaw. "I am excited to be part of an elite softball program. When I met with Coach Harris, I saw how much she cares about the game and I was hoping to get a chance to be part of her staff. I'm very excited to get started."
Shaw and his wife Kelli have two sons, Reed and Braden.
