ATHENS, Ga. --- Swimmers Lauren English and Colleen Haase have signed national letters-of-intent with Georgia, according to an announcement Tuesday by head coach Jack Bauerle.

English is a native of Lincoln Park, N.J., where she attends Montville Township High School and swims for Coach Kathleen Ashenfelter for the Cougar Swim Club. English is the nation's top-ranked backstroker in the 18-and-under category and she is 18th in the world in the 100-meter back. English was a finalist in the 2006 Pan Pacific Games in the 100 back and has been selected as a member of the 2007 World University Games Team. She is a five-time High School All-American as well as a Scholastic All-American.

"Lauren is a terrific kid and we're excited about her joining the program," Bauerle said. "She had an amazing run this summer. She's a real up-and-comer in U.S. swimming. I think she's going to be a major player at the NCAA and international levels."

Haase hails from Rockville, Md., and attends Our Lady of Good Counsel Hope. She swims for Coach Sue Chen with the Rockville Montgomery Swim Club. Haase is the nation's top prospect in the breaststroke events, and she is an Olympic Trials qualifier in the 100- and 200-meter events. Haase also has been recognized as a Scholastic All-American.

"Colleen is a tough kid who's going to really help us out," Bauerle said. "She's got great potential in the breaststroke events, and she's going to help us fill our needs there. I feel she's going to be a big player at the next level and that she will be a formidable swimmer for us."
