November 14, 2006 | Men's Golf
ATHENS, Ga. --- Russell Henley of Macon has signed a national letter-of-intent with the Georgia men’s golf team, according to an announcement made Tuesday by Bulldogs coach Chris Haack.
Henley, who attends Stratford Academy, joins Chattanooga’s Harris English and Auburn’s Lowery Thomas on Georgia’s list of signees.
Henley led Stratford to Georgia Independent Schools Association state titles in 2004 and 2005, and he was the individual state medalist in 2004, 2005 and 2006. In 2005, Henley became the youngest Georgian ever to qualify for the U.S. Open Sectional. He also was the youngest male in the 48-year history of the Macon-Middle Georgia Championship when he won that title in 2005. Henley was chosen as the Georgia State Golf Association’s Junior Player of the Year in 2005 and 2006. He also is an All-State point guard for the Stratford basketball team.
“We are excited and happy about having Russell join our golf team,” Haack said. “He has excellent golf skills and he will be a welcome addition to our program. We look for a lot of great things out of him during his four years with us.”
