ATHENS, Ga. --- University of Georgia freshman quarterback Matthew Stafford has been named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league announced Monday.
Stafford, a 6-3, 225-pound native of Dallas, Texas, completed 20-of-32 passes for 267 yards and two touchdowns
in Georgia's 27-24 win against Mississippi State this past Saturday. A true freshman, he set career highs in attempts, completions,
yards and TD passes. He completed passes to nine different Bulldog receivers.
Stafford is the second Bulldog signal-caller to earn this league honor this season. Last month, Joe Cox was tabbed for the weekly honor for his performance in the comeback win against Colorado. For the season, Stafford is 67 for 125 for 849 yards, three touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Up next, the Bulldogs (6-2, 3-2 SEC) face ninth-ranked Florida (6-1, 4-1 SEC) in Jacksonville Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 3:30 p.m., and the game will be televised live by CBS.
