Post-Game Quotes

GEORGIA QUOTES

Head coach Mark Richt:

“I’d have to say the biggest play of the game for us was Charles’ (Johnson) strip at the end. The catch by Kenneth (Harris) was big to get us out of deep territory as well. To their credit, they were playing for a win at the end.”

“We sure haven’t done a good job with turnovers. Some of that is due to the inexperience of guys. The passing game did have a lot of things happen though. We’re just not good enough at this moment. People are starting to appreciate all victories.”

“The crowd did a great job. Last week they were all a little stunned. We certainly appreciate them.”

“Matthew (Stafford) had his ups and downs obviously. He did some nice things, but also threw the ball into traffic and can’t do that. You’re going to have bumps and bruises when you play young guys. Hopefully he will learn from it.”

“We did have big plays on defense. We had six tackles for a loss which is outstanding. We put more pressure on the quarterback. Everyone got in the act. It was a group effort. I’m glad how they played.”

On the play to Tripp Chandler on fourth and one: “I surprised myself. I got tired of not scoring touchdowns. You’ve got to give Tripp a lot of credit. Stafford put it where he could get it.”

Georgia rover Tra Battle:
“We just have to keep stepping up and make big plays.  At the end of the game, since I’ve been here for four years, I’ve seen every situation and been through the ups and downs.  We really weren’t saying, Here we go again.’  We were just saying, Now it’s time to make a big play and that’s what Charles did.”

Georgia defensive end Charles Johnson:
“On that last play, I saw that he had brought the ball down.  I just took a swipe at it.  It was great that I was able to jump on the ball and I’m hoping now that we can ride that momentum of the win.  In that situation, everybody should expect themselves to make plays like that and it was a relief after it happened.”

Georgia tight end Tripp Chandler:
“I felt like with Martrez not in there, we had a void and I filled that to the best of my ability.  I felt like I really got to contribute today and that I made my mark on Georgia football.”

Georgia quarterback Matthew Stafford:
“It was huge for this team to get back into the win column.  Mississippi State was a great team and now we really have to get ready for next week.  We concentrated on throwing today and I tried to go in and get the team a win any way that I could.”

MISSISSIPPI STATE QUOTES

Head coach Sylvester Croom

“I congratulate Coach Richt and his team for a good job and for a good win.  I’m proud of our team.  We showed heart.  We had a chance to win it and we didn’t make the plays at the end.  Our guys made plays to help us have a chance at the end of the game.  I’m proud of our kids and we had chances to win this game.  There are some positives from this game.”

QB Mike Henig

(On today’s performance)
“I had a lot of confrixdence today in our game plan. Overall I thought we played pretty well, and that’s why it hurts right now.”

(Thoughts on last play of game)
“The play was a sprint out where the option is either to throw the ball away or give your receivers a shot at getting a trouchdown. I rolled out, and as soon as I started to throw my arm got hit. I was looking to throw the ball downfield to Jamayel Smith, who was wide open. I just tried to make a play.”

(Thoughts on Georgia’s team)
“We saw some stuff on film this week that we were able to take advantage of. We knew they had a freshman at corner, and he was matched up against one of our receivers. They played a lot of cover-2 and zone, and we found a lot of spots open in their defense. Georgia is a great team, and they definitely played hard.”

S Jeramie Johnson

(On the loss)
“This loss hurts right now. I thought we did some good things today, but we need to do them earlier in the game so we don’t get ourselves in this situation.”

(Thoughts on Georgia)
“We knew coming into today’s game that Georgia was a good team. We knew they were vulnerable because good teams often get down on themselves after a couple of losses. We tried to come out real quick today and stick it to them early.”

(Thoughts on turnovers)
“We knew that Georgia’s receivers could make some plays, but when they miss catches the ball tends to go in the air and we did a good job today of taking advantage of some balls that hung up in the air.”
