No. 7 Bulldogs Host Georgia Invitational This Weekend

ATHENS, Ga. --- The seventh-ranked Georgia women's tennis team plays host to the Georgia Invitational starting Friday and running through Sunday at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Tennis Center.
A round-robin indoor event of singles and doubles, the tournament will feature student-athletes from Mississippi State, Kansas State, Troy at the host Bulldogs. Action begins daily at 9 a.m. with doubles and then singles matches are slated for 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 4 p.m. Admission is free.
This event will be first tournament of the new year for the Bulldogs and their final tune-up before the dual match season begins on Jan. 26 against #20 William & Mary. Georgia's top singles performer this past fall was junior Natalie Frazier who went 8-5 with six of those matches against opponents ranked in the top 35. Currently, Frazier is ranked 37th in singles. Doubles play will again be a strength for the Bulldogs. The tandem of Shadisha Robinson and Caroline Basu went 7-3 in the fall while Evgenia Subbotina and Darya Ivanov posted a 6-1 mark. The Robinson/Basu team is ranked 12th nationally while Subbotina and Ivanov are 20th. Head coach Jeff Wallace is in his 21st season at the helm for the Bulldogs who concluded 2005 with an 18-8 mark.
