ATHENS --- Georgia freshman Courtney Kupets was named the Southeastern Conference Gymnast of the Week on Tuesday, following an all-around victory over Maryland last week in Athens.

Kupets scored a 39.475, including a 9.95 on bars and 9.9 on floor. Her win in the all-around came one week after placing second in Georgia's first meet of the year in Cancun.

Courtney Kupets is the younger sister of Ashley, a Georgia junior and four-time All-American. Courtney was a member of the 2004 U.S. Olympic Team, winning the silver medal in the overall team competition as well as a bronze on the individual uneven bars.

The defending national champion Gym Dogs open SEC competition this Friday with a 7:30 p.m. meet against Arkansas in Stegeman Coliseum.

Last week's home win over Maryland (195.825-188.3) came in front of a crowd of 9,323 and by the largest margin of victory for the Gym Dogs since 1998.

After a week as the No. 2 team in the country, Georgia has reclaimed its preseason spot at the top of the rankings. Week three rankings initially had the Gym Dogs listed as No. 3 by their high score against the Terps, but the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches last summer passed a resolution for rankings to be determined by teams' average scores through the first seven weeks of the season, vaulting the team back No. 1. This is Georgia's first regular season No. 1 ranking since March 11, 2002.
