ATHENS, Ga. --- Quarterback D.J. Shockley tied the Bulldog school record with five touchdown passes and ran in for another score as Georgia thrashed Boise State 48-13 in front of a Sanford Stadium capacity crowd of 92,746 and a ESPN national television audience.
In the first meeting on the football field between these two schools, Shockley proved he was a worthy replacement for former record-setting quarterback David Greene as the senior accounted for six total touchdowns (five passing and one rushing) which breaks a school record. On the day, he passed for 289 yards and rushed for 85 yards. The 13th-ranked Bulldogs held the 18th-ranked Broncos to 123 passing yards and did not allow Boise State to score until the 7:11 mark in the third quarter. In addition, four different Georgia players snagged interceptions in the win after the Bulldogs combined for only five picks all season in 2004.
Following Georgia linebacker Tony Taylor's interception on the first play from the line of scrimmage, Shockley tallied the opening Bulldog points just minutes into the game on a 14-yd run. Linebacker Dannell Ellerbe, who was playing his first down for the Bulldogs, grabbed another interception on the Broncos' next series and Shockley quickly hit Kenneth Harris for a 40-yd touchdown pass to put Georgia up 14-0. Harris' score also came on his first play of his career at Georgia.
