Equestrian Tryout Dates Announced

ATHENS -- Tryouts for the final six places on the 2005-06 UGA Equestrian team will be held August 25-26 at the Animal and Dairy Science Arena on South Milledge Avenue, according to an announcement today by head coach Meghan Boenig.

Anyone wishing to participate in the tryouts must also attend an Aug. 22 meeting in the Conference Room on the bottom floor of Stegeman Coliseum. That meeting has been scheduled for 6:00 p.m.

Requirements for any student to try out are as follows:

Full-time female UGA student
Proof of a medical physical exam within the past year, signed by a doctor
Proof of Medical Insurance (must bring to Aug. 22 meeting)
Proper riding shoes (must have heels and cover ankles)
Ability to run the mile in less than 10 minutes

Participants are also reminded of the importance of appropriate dress for the tryout. Loose clothing and chaps on English riders are considered inappropriate.

Prospective riders are advised to expect the following in both tryouts and as a member of the Equestrian team:

TRYOUTS

Ride multiple horses in either Huntseat Equitation or Western Reining/Horsemanship, riding in groups of six.
Videotaping

EQUESTRIAN TEAM

Dedication. Weekly commitment of up to 20 hours, with meetings, workouts, practices and competition.
High academic standards. Grades below 2.75 attend mandatory study hall.

After the tryouts on Aug. 25-26, a final team roster will be posted on the door of the Equestrian office, located in Room 257 of Stegeman Coliseum.
