  • 2005 NCAA Championships in Athens

*Georgia concluded the 2005 season ranked ninth nationally at 18-8 (7-4 SEC/4th East). It is the ninth straight year that the Bulldogs finished in the top ten of the final rankings and 18th of the past 20 seasons under head coach Jeff Wallace.

*With the 2005 NCAA at-large bid, the Bulldogs made their 19 straight appearance in the NCAA Championships. After reaching the quarterfinals, Georgia now owns an all-time mark of 47-17 in the NCAA Championships. Georgia played host to first and second round action, beating Quinnipiac and South Carolina and then welcomed the remaining 15 teams for the Round of 16 through the finals. It marked the second year in a row and third time in school history, Georgia served as the NCAA Finals Site. Georgia posted a win over California but then fell to eventual national champion and top-ranked Stanford in the NCAA quarterfinals.

*Georgia won the doubles point in 22 of its 26 matches including all 18 of its victories in 2005. The only matches Georgia lost the doubles point was against top-ranked Stanford (semifinals of the USTA/ITA National Team Indoors) in February, to sixth-ranked Vanderbilt on April 10, to #20 Tennessee on April 16 and to top-ranked Stanford in the NCAA quarterfinals on May 20th. Georgia won the doubles point against #16 Ga. Tech, #9 Florida and #3 Kentucky but then dropped four singles contests to lose the match.

*The lone senior on the 2005 squad was Jitka Schonfeldova who graduated in June with a degree in Speech Communications. She plans to attend graduate school here at UGA. Schonfeldova was the team's SEC Scholar-Athlete nominee with the strongest academic credentials. Overall, the Georgia women's tennis team had the highest GPA among all Bulldog teams in the spring semester at 3.3. Schonfeldova, Caroline Basu, Natalie Frazier and Evgenia Subbotina made the SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll.

*Georgia sophomore Shadisha Robinson along with the doubles team of Robinson/Caroline Basu earned All-America honors. Robinson went 32-15 in singles and finished as the 13th-ranked player in the country. The Robinson/Basu duo maintained their number one ranking and became the sixth Bulldog duo in school history to finish a year ranked #1. They were the top seed in the NCAA Championships. A first-team All-SEC selection, they went 28-4. They set a school record for most victories by a duo in a season. The previous mark was 27-11 by the team of Lisa Apanay and Stacey Schefflin in 1988.

*Georgia sophomore Natalie Frazier enjoyed her best season as a Bulldog, going 30-13 including a final ranking of #32. She earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Singles Championships. Frazier was recognized for her community service efforts by being named to the SEC Good Works Team for women's tennis. She went 19-5 in doubles with Jitka Schonfeldova.
