KNOXVILLE, TENN. --- Eleventh-ranked Tennessee had a chance to win the Southeastern Conference regular season title Sunday but the Georgia Bulldogs made sure there would be no celebration by posting a 4-1 win at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Georgia (30-25, 12-17 SEC) got another strong pitching performance from sophomore Brooks Brown as he teamed with Will Startup to limit the Volunteers to one unearned run after Tennessee had outscored Georgia a combined 34-5 in the first two games. The Volunteers dropped to 39-17, 18-11 SEC. Brown (4-2) closed the regular season by winning his final three SEC starts, going 3-0 with a 2.94 ERA, beating Vanderbilt, Auburn and the 11th-ranked Volunteers. Startup notched his sixth save, pitching the final 2.2 innings and getting eight groundball outs.

Tennessee grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first on a miscue by third baseman Adam McDaniel. Josh Alley reached on a leadoff walk and went to third on a base hit by Eli Iorg. Then, McDaniel helped start a double play on a nice grab while looking Alley back to the bag. Chase Headley reached on a walk. Shortstop Eric King followed with a chopper to McDaniel who bobbled it and then threw high to first, allowing Alley to come home for an unearned run. King was able to go to second on the play and Headley took third. However, Brown got Julio Borbon to pop out to end any further damage.

In the top of the third, Georgia notched its first hit and run of the afternoon. Tennessee starter James Adkins looked to be in cruise control retiring the first eight Bulldogs. With two outs, shortstop Matthew Dunn (2-3, 3R) drew a walk. Left fielder Kyle Keen (4-for-5, RBI) lined a single on a 1-2 offering to keep the inning going. Second baseman Jason Jacobs (2-5, 2 RBI) delivered a run-scoring single on a 3-2 pitch to tie the contest as Dunn crossed home plate and Keen took third. Adkins recovered to retire Felmy. Tennessee threatened in its half of the frame. With one out, Iorg doubled down the left field line and catcher J.P. Arencibia singled to left. Then, Brown struck out Headley and got King to ground out to keep it 1-1.
