Georgia Falls To Stanford, 4-1

ATHENS, Ga. -- The eighth-ranked Georgia women's tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to top-ranked Stanford in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on Friday.
The Bulldogs complete their season with an 18-8 record and falling in the NCAA quarterfinals for the third consecutive year.
"We've got a young team and we did a lot of great things this year," said Georgia head coach Jeff Wallace. "We also competed today against the best team in the country and did a heck of a job. As a coach, I can't complain. We learned a lot this year and the future looks bright."
The Cardinal got on the board first by winning at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to lead 1-0. Georgia evened the match score at 1-1 when sophomore Caroline Basu topped No. 25 Erin Burdette, 6-1, 6-4, at No. 3 singles.
Two-time defending NCAA singles champion Amber Liu defeated 10th-ranked Shadisha Robinson in straight sets at No. 1 (6-4, 6-2) to give Stanford a 2-1 lead. Theresa Logar extended Stanford's lead to 3-1 with a 6-4, 6-1 victory against Kelley Hyndman.
Stanford earned its 22nd trip to the NCAA semifinals in the last 23 years when Alice Barnes defeated Natalie Frazier, 7-6 (4), 6-4 at No. 2 singles to clinch the victory.
