Robinson/Basu Duo Now Ranked #1

ATHENS ----- The University of Georgia duo of sophomores Shadisha Robinson and Carolina Basu are now number one in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association doubles rankings released Monday. The Bulldogs (15-7) remained eighth in the team rankings.

In the individual ITA rankings, Miami, Fla., senior Megan Bradley (42-1) remained at No. 1 in singles while the Robinson/Basu team moved in to the top spot from second, jumping ahead of Northwestern's Audra Cohen and Cristelle Grier (32-8). A first team All-SEC selection, the Robinson/Basu team owns a 24-3 mark this year including a win over Cohen/Grier. Robinson is Georgia's highest ranked singles player at number 10 while sophomore Natalie Frazier is 27th. Robinson owns a 31-12 singles mark this season while Frazier is 29-11.

The field of 64 along with the host sites for first and second round action for the 2005 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships will be announced Wednesday, May 4 live on ESPNews at 4:30 p.m. ET. The singles and doubles field for the NCAAs will be announced on the NCAA's website (ncaasports.com) at 6 p.m. ET on Thursday, May 5.

The first and second round of the NCAA Team Championships will be held May 13-14 at campus sites around the country. The NCAA Team Round of 16 through the Finals along with the Singles and Doubles Championships will be held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens from May 19-28. Defending NCAA champion Stanford (21-0) is the nation's top-ranked team and owner of a 50-match winning streak that dates back to last year. Florida (18-2) moved up to number two in the latest rankings after beating SEC regular season and third-ranked Kentucky (23-5) for the SEC Tournament title. The rest of the top ten features Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Ga. Tech, Northwestern, Southern California, Georgia, Miami, Fla., and Texas.
