Tennessee Upsets Georgia Women's Tennis 4-3

KNOXVILLE, TENN. -- The 20th-ranked Tennessee Lady Volunteers posted a 4-3 upset over sixth-ranked Georgia here Saturday. The Lady Vols (14-7, 7-4 SEC)captured the doubles point and then picked up wins at No. 1, 3 and 5 singles to defeat the Bulldogs (13-6, 7-4).

Tennessee went up 2-0 after Ghizela Schutte beat Evgenia Subbotina 6-2,6-0 at the number five spot. Georgia got its first point of the afternoon when senior Jitka Schonfeldova dispatched Melissa Schaub 6-2,6-4 at number six. The Lady Vols went up 3-1 when Vicky Jones won her seventh straight match, posting a 6-4,6-1 win over Carolina Basu at number three. Georgia closed the gap to 3-2 when freshman Kelley Hyndman beat Bryce Marable 6-4,6-2 at number four. Georgia tied the match at 3-all when seventh-ranked Shadisha Robinson rallied back for a win at number two, beating Blakely Griffith 3-6,6-3,6-2. The match came down to the number one spot where 42nd-ranked Sabita Maharaj upset 26th-ranked Natalie Frazier 3-6,6-4,6-2.

Georgia now preapres for the SEC Tournament, which will be held April 21-24 in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
