ATHENS, Ga. - The Georgia Bulldogs opened spring football practice with a two-hour workout in helmets and shorts at the Woodruff practice fields on Saturday morning.
The day begins a stretch of 15 practices for the Bulldogs during the month of March through the start of April.
"I enjoyed it out there," said head coach Mark Richt. "It was fun to be out there with them again. There was a lot of excitement, enthusiasm and a little nerves, but it's fun to have that first day."

Saturday was also senior D.J. Shockley's first practice under center as the team's starting quarterback.
"I'm real happy for D.J.," Richt said. "I like seeing him in that leadership role. I like him knowing he's the man and doesn't have to be a hero on every play. When you have one series and that's it, it can be tough. You don't want it to end, so you're more likely to force something and make a mistake. Now he doesn't have to worry about that."
Georgia will return to practice on Monday but will not be in full pads until a workout next Thursday night. Spring practice concludes with the annual G-Day game, which will be held on April 9 in Sanford Stadium.
