ATHENS, Ga. --- Georgia will play host to Concordia University tomorrow in its only exhibition basketball contest of the 2005-06 season. The Bulldogs and Stingers will tip off at 4:00 p.m. at Stegeman Coliseum, and there is no admission charge.
Immediately after the game, fans will have the opportunity to collect autographs and take pictures with the basketball team at the annual Georgia Basketball Picture Day, presented by the Athens Banner-Herald. The 2005-06 schedule poster and pocket-sized schedule cards will also be available.
After three weeks of competition among themselves, the Bulldogs will welcome the sight of another team. For head coach Dennis Felton, it's another, better opportunity to learn about his team. "I know some of the truths about our team, but it's always a relief when you get to evaluate one side of the ball and not have to worry about the other side," he said.
Felton added that he is generally pleased with the progress his young squad has made in three weeks. Injuries, however, have stunted the development of several individuals. Kendrick Johnson (ankle), Dave Bliss (back) and Rashaad Singleton (tendinitis) have all missed varying amounts of practice time, depleting an already thin frontcourt. In addition, junior guard Levi Stukes may miss the scrimmage because of a lower back strain.
"Our numbers are better, but we still don't have enough guys to be able to withstand a lot of injuries at one time," Felton said.
The Georgia game will be the fourth of a week-long road trip for Concordia, a university of 31,000 students in Montreal. The Stingers lost 90-69 at Rhode Island on Tuesday night and were drubbed 123-66 by top-ranked Duke last night. They'll face Davidson tonight before traveling to Athens to play the Bulldogs.
