Scott, Kirk To Play In All-America Golf Classic

ATHENS, Ga. -- Senior Richard Scott and junior Chris Kirk have been chosen to represent Georgia in the 31st Annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic in El Paso, Texas, Sunday through Tuesday.
Kirk was a Second-Team All-American in 2005 and Scott earned Honorable Mention status as they helped the Bulldogs win the national championship. This season, Kirk has been in the lineup for all five tournaments, including the team's three wins, and leads the squad with a 70.2 average. Scott's average in three events is 74.0.
The 31st Annual Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic includes a stellar field of 2005 All-Americans, including the Georgia players as well as Anthony Kim (Oklahoma), Pablo Martin (Oklahoma State), Rhys Davies (East Tennessee State), Kyle Reifers (Wake Forest), Alejandro Cañizares (Arizona State) and Ryan Blaum (Duke).
The tournament, hosted by the Sun Bowl Association, is played at the par-71, 6,781-yard El Paso Country Club. The event includes 54 holes of golf as well as long drive and putting contests.
Each university is awarded a $1,000 scholarship per participating player. In all, 112 colleges and universities have participated in the tournament, raising more than $540,000 in scholarship money for the institutions.
Past winners of the tournament include Jerry Pate, Scott Simpson, Jay Don Blake, Davis Love III, Billy Mayfair, David Duval, Tiger Woods and Matt Kuchar. Alumni of the Golf Classic have gone on to earn more than $790 million on the PGA Tour.
