ATHENS, Ga. -- The University of Georgia soccer team (8-3-1, 2-2-0) will head to Baton Rouge, La. on Thursday morning to prepare for this weekend's matchups with two SEC West opponents. The Bulldogs will begin the weekend at LSU on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. CST. The squad will then head to Fayetteville, Ark on Sunday for a 2:00 p.m. EST kickoff against Arkansas.
"This is going to be a big test for our team," said head coach Patrick Baker. "It's only the second time we have left the state this season. We were pretty lucky to have a great home schedule; we had the first two weekends at home. But now we have to get ready to go on the road and take on two very good teams. We have not traditionally been very successful on the road, so we are hoping to turn that around."
The LSU Tigers carry a 5-4-2 (1-2-1) record into Friday¹s game. In the all-time series between these two teams, Georgia holds a 5-1 advantage. In their last action they took down Mississippi State, 2-0, in Baton Rouge on Sunday in front of their record-setting single-game home attendance of 1,689.
"LSU is coming off of its first SEC win," said Baker. "And if they get another that puts them at 2-3, right in the middle of it where we are. This should be a great game with a lot of people there. We have been stressing to our girls all week that we hope we are continuing to improve individually and collectively. We learned a lot last weekend against South Carolina and Florida and hopefully we can put some of those lessons to good use."
Arkansas currently holds a record of 4-7-0, 1-3-0 in the SEC. Before facing the Dogs on Sunday, the Lady Backs will play host to the Tennessee Volunteers on Friday. In the all-time series between Georgia and Arkansas, the Bulldogs hold a 4-2-1 edge.
"We never had the pleasure of traveling to Arkansas while we were at FSU," said Baker. "But I know they have a good facility and are a very capable team. This weekend is by far the toughest travel weekend, with a flight Thursday and two flights on Saturday in addition to two good opponents."
