ATHENS, Ga. -- The No. 1-ranked Georgia men's golf team will return to action and will try to defend its 2004 championship Sunday through Tuesday at the Second Annual Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational at Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, Fla.
The Bulldogs won the inaugural event last year by shooting a 1-under 863 and claiming a 10-shot edge over Oklahoma State. In addition, Chris Kirk shared medalist honors with Oklahoma State's Pablo Martin at 7-under 209.
"We're obviously excited about returning to Isleworth," Georgia coach Chris Haack said. "We had a positive experience there a year ago, so we're looking forward to going back."
Georgia is off to a strong start on the young season, recording a victory at the Ping/Golfweek NCAA Preview and a second-place finish at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate. Dating back to last season, the Bulldogs have finished no worse than third in seven straight events and have been in the top five in 15 consecutive tourneys.
Haack is going to use a lineup of seniors Kevin Kisner and Richard Scott, junior Kirk, and freshmen Brian Harman and Adam Mitchell at Isleworth. Because of the competitive nature of the qualifying sessions this fall, only Kisner, Kirk and Harman have been in all three lineups. Mitchell, a rookie from Chattanooga, will be making his Bulldog debut.
Weather permitting (since Hurricane Wilma is looming), the Bulldogs are slated to tee off between 9:30 and 10:06 a.m. on Sunday. Monday's and Tuesday's tee times will be determined by the order of the teams in the standings.
