MACON, Ga. - The University of Georgia men's and women's cross country `B' squads competed at the Mercer Invitational on Saturday morning. The Georgia men's team finished its 8K race in fifth place while the Lady Bulldogs finished their 5K race in eighth place.
"Today's meets were about some of our younger runners getting some valuable experience," said UGA cross country coach Dave Hartman. "I was really pleased with the way both our men's and women's teams came out and approached their respective meets. Both groups ran solid races and although we did not come out on top in either race I would say that we came out and accomplished what we wanted to today."
Leading the way for the Georgia men was freshman Daniel Elder, who finished in 10th place (26:18) in his first ever meet for the Bulldogs.
"Daniel came out and really did a good job for us today," said Hartman. "We had to hold him out of the first couple of meets because of some injury problems, but he looked great for us today."
Senior Shaun Emery was Georgia's next highest finisher, crossing the finish line in 18th place with a time of 26:51. Rounding out Georgia's finishers were freshmen Dustin Tetley (28th, 27:23), Kristofer Ward (33rd, 27:33) and Matt Price (38th, 27:42).
Pacing the Georgia women were sophomore Sarah Madebach (18:52) and freshman Jill Skinnner (19:01), who came in 12th and 15th place, respectively.
