ATHENS -- The 2004 NCAA Women's Tennis Championships concluded Saturday with the crowning of the 2004 singles and doubles champions at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens.

No. 4 seed Amber Liu of Stanford defeated third-seeded Jelena Pandzic of Fresno State, 6-4, 0-6, 6-3 to repeat as singles champion in her sophomore season. Liu finishes the season with an overall 25-4 record while Pandzic falls to 29-2. Prior to Saturday's final, Pandzic's lone loss this season was to Sacramento State's Margarita Karnaukhova back on April 11.

The doubles final featured the UCLA tandem of Lauren Fisher and Daniela Bercek and the Marshall duo of Jessica Johnson and Ashley Kroh. UCLA defeated Marshall 6-4, 6-4 to claim UCLA's first doubles national title since 1995 when Keri Phebus and Susie Starrett defeated a Texas duo, 6-3, 6-3.

UCLA last made an appearance in the doubles championship in 2002 when Fisher teamed with former Bruin Megan Bradley, now of Miami. Fisher and Bradley fell to Stanford's Lauren Kalvaria and Gabriela Lastra in that final, 6-2, 6-3.

Johnson of Marshall and Fisher of UCLA were junior doubles partners in their home state of Pennsylvania prior to beginning their collegiate careers.

Saturday's finals mark the end of the collegiate tennis season. The NCAA Championship will be back in Athens next year, as Georgia serves as the host for the 2005 edition of the tournament.
