Four Teams Advance to Semifinals

ATHENS -- The 2004 NCAA Women's National Tennis Championships continued Friday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia. The Elite Eight pairings featured Clemson and Washington, Miami (Fla.) and UCLA, Stanford and Duke, and Vanderbilt and Georgia.

The No. 17-32 Miami Hurricanes and the No. 9 UCLA Bruins faced off at 11:00 a.m. with Miami claiming the doubles point and an early 1-0 lead in the match. The Hurricanes, riding their best-ever performance in the NCAA championship, continued their impressive run in singles, winning at the Nos. 3 and 4 positions. UCLA then answered with wins at Nos. 1,2,4 and 6 to earn a spot in the Final Four. Daniela Bercek's win at number one sent the Bruins to the final four as she upset fourth-ranked Megan Bradley 6-4,2-6,6-4 UCLA has only reached the semifinals one other time in school history, when it did so in 1996.
